Why is it that relationships with other people are so difficult sometimes? I could be having a great day and then suddenly get sucked into someone else's drama. I've gotten to the point where I try everything possible to avoid drama, but some people are relentless. Why is it that we feel like we have to choose sides in arguments with friends/family? Why can't we just agree to disagree? I don't know - maybe it's human nature. I have known some people most of my life that can't get along with anyone. They constantly feel the need to have some kind of battle brewing. I suppose everyone feels that their ideals should be everyone else's ideals. I'm sorry, but it doesn't work that way. We all perceive the world based on our own specific outlook and experiences.
Until I went to college I thought that my family's views were always correct. Boy, was I wrong. I had never encountered so many people with so many different ideas. And, the most complexing thing, their ideas were not flawed. Believe me, we had many late night conversations about life in general. I learned a lot. Maybe this is where I learned to agree to disagree. I suppose if you never have that experience, then you will always believe that you are always correct. Hmmm. I guess that's another good reason to go away to college.
So the question, 'Why can't we all just get along?", well we could if we could learn to agree to disagree.
